Chenin Blanc

Chenin blanc, or Pineau de la Loire, is a variety of white wine grape from the Loire valley of France. Its high acidity means it can be used to make everything from sparkling wines to well-balanced dessert wines, although it can produce very bland, neutral wines if the vine’s natural vigour is not controlled. Outside the Loire it is found in most of the New World wine regions; it is the most widely planted variety in South Africa, where it is known as Steen.

2006 Chenin Blanc

Our 2006 vintage was harvested in the early morning cold, and crushed and pressed at the winery. After a long and cold fermentation we immediately bottled the wine, to make the final product fresh and vibrant. The 2006 Chenin Blanc offers inviting aromas of honeysuckle and white peach with a slight floral note. To the palate this off-dry wine is soft and round with the right balance of bright fruit and zesty acidity. Even “non-wine drinkers” have been known to fall in love with the Husch Chenin Blanc.

This is the ideal wine for a picnic, aperitif or with a fruit and cheese course. It is also excellent with fresh oysters, cracked crab, or your favorite spicy Asian dish.

The wine has a zesty citrus character on the palate with notes of peach, melon and floral blossoms. 2006 Napa Valley Chenin Blanc

Geoff’s goal is to capture the essence of the fruit from the two acres of beautiful old vines in the eastern hills of the valley. He crushes and presses very gently to avoid extracting any bitterness or astringency from the skins and seeds, and ferments the juice slowly, at low temperatures, to retain the exquisite fruity and floral flavors and an intriguing hint of honey. Seductively perfumed and fresh on the palate, there’s no oak to mask the fragrant honeysuckle, sweet Asian pear, fresh green apple and hint of spice. A crisp, citrus finish offsets the soft, subtle sweetness.

This is “Ernesto’s” 39th year—and our third vintage since we began exclusively farming it. The wine was 50% barrel fermented, which contributes texture and richness, and 50% tank fermented to maintain freshness and purity of fruit. The natural acidity of the Chenin Blanc grape enables it to age gracefully, and with ageing it develops more honeysuckle aromas and flavors. In its youth, this wine shows lots of anise, pear and quince—with nice crispness. The “Ernesto” is great with oysters, melon with prosciutto, apple fennel salad, and cool soups.

2004 Dry Chenin Blanc
Napa Valley

Bright and lively, bursting with flavors of tropical fruits and citrus, this wine expresses the unique characteristics of the Chenin Blanc varietal. Chappellet preserves the fresh fruit flavors and crisp acidity of this celebrated grape variety by fermenting and aging the wine in stainless steel tanks. A note of richness and fullness is achieved through barrel fermentation and sur lie ageing of small quantities of the wine. A favorite wine for sipping on its own, the versatile Chenin Blanc also complements many seafood dishes, Asian cuisine, and citrus-sauced pork and chicken.

Tantalizing aromas of orange zest and dried mango are accompanied by delicate floral notes and hints of fresh cut hay. Mouth-filling flavors of orange and pineapple flow into subtle mineral notes. Balanced by bright acidity, the wine finishes with a creamy texture and touches of vanilla and spice.

2006 Chenin Blanc

Abundant spring flowers and floral blossoms burst forth on the nose of this fresh white wine. Crisp and refreshing, this fruit basket boasts brilliant flavors of green apple and tropical touches of pineapple. Though crisp and bright, this wine does have a softer side: honeydew melons and apricots add a sweet lusciousness from mid-palate to the soft and silky finish.
